Liner Notes: Low Rent Space

With the onset of the worldwide pandemic, Quick Trio and associated groups did not have the live performance opportunities for the Toledo Botanical Garden, Toledo Art Museum and a Christmas-themed set for Mayle Law LLC. At the time of this writing(January 2021), in the United States, we are still in the midst of it and live performances continue to remain on hold.
Despite the current future unknown, we now present to you this recorded aftifact. We hope you find it an enriching listening experience.
…and now, some comments for the press:
Low Rent Space: Exuberant Bop and Hip Hop that keeps you on the edge of your downbeat with improv riding the form flow. Features the Trio: Quick, Kreuz, Ronquillo.
Strange Waltz: The big waltz number of the set. Liquid chord harmony and changing lengths of phrase appropriate for Tap Dancing. Tied together in a hooky rondo melody lick. Full Quintet sound adding Wolkins and Maloney.
Vultures Wear Disguises: Quintet Rave-up with a bass line that is the infra-structure support for the city skyline melody. Some say the vultures live in the country, some say they live in the city. Beware disguises.
Flippin’: The widest swinger of the set – in 3 bar phrase packets. Quartet with Wolkins on Harmon Mute Trumpet.
Mugatu: Quartet performance. A Bold line with some harmonic tongue slips that keeps the band on high phrase alert. Named in honor of some villains of the pop culture diaspora.
Durty Bird Blues: Testifyin-style blues for the swing set, which I believe could be “everyone”. Dedicated to Quick Trio’s monthly gig for the past few years – Ye Olde Durty Bird in Downtown T-Town. Right across the street from where the Mudhens play baseball.
Bitter Beast: Full Quintet attack in the rhythm space where players may swing, groove ‘even 8ths’ and pull down the half-time funk all in one song concept. Dedicated to Glasshopper IPA.
Illusion: Closing number played by the trio. Ensemble sections present a musical idea of something that may or may not really be there.
